Ideaborn with the General Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean organized a regional workshop in partnership “The school as a key element to prevent violence and promote the values of equality” at the French Institute of Tunis.
This workshop is organized within the project “Training Responsible Citizens”, labeled by the Union for the Mediterranean and implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway and the Government of Monaco.
With the presence of the Tunisian Minister of Women, Family and Children, Her Excellency Neziha Labidi and Mr. Khalid Fares, Inspector General of the Moroccan Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training and various organizations from EU, Morocco and Tunisia; the workshop presented the results of diagnostics made in Morocco and Tunisia about the role of civic education in schools and its impact on the promotion of a culture of non-violence and equality.
National strategies of both countries in this field were presented as well as good practices in the Euro-Mediterranean region, including UNESCO, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, the Anna Lindh Foundation, the autonomous University of Madrid and the experiences of civil society organizations.
The stakeholders also discussed the best strategies and tools to rehabilitate the role of the school as a key element to prevent violence among young people and promote the principles and values of equality. They recommended strengthening the participation of all actors in society, including young, parents and students themselves as well as the media and civil society.
