Supported by the Consejo General de la Abogacía y el Instituto de Derechos Humanos de Cataluña (IDHC), Ideaborn created and executed a programme supporting the active help to jurists in Algeria and Morocco. The first stage was a study carried out during three months from August to September in 2001 in which were analysed the Maghreb constitutional frameworks, as well as the available tools to protect the human rights.
It was as well important to assess the existing projects about training of trainers and the promotion of Human Rights. The research ended in October, 2001 and was used to begin with a conferences cycle in Barcelona in November, 2001, in which were tackled issues such as the need to give assistance to the local initiatives about the independence of the judicial power (jurists and lawyers), as well as the knowledge and respect to the local laws obligated by the police and the government employees regarding prisons and jails.
