What is the MedCOP Climat?
The MedCOP Climate 2016 is a Mediterranean multi-actor climate conference aiming to contribute through a regional perspective to the international efforts against climate change. The conference has been organized in preparation for the 22nd World Climate Conference (COP22) who took place in Bab Ighli, Marrakech, Morocco from 7-18 November 2016.
MedCop Climat invites stakeholders from the Mediterranean to consider possible synergies to leverage the positive impacts of existing initiatives or create and formulate proposals to intensify the transition from strategic frameworks to concrete achievements. It aims to be organized every year, ahead of COP, in one of the Mediterranean countries.
What do the Declaration on Gender and Climate of the Mediterranean Women include?
- The issues of financing and change of scale, the ownership and dissemination of safe and sustainable technologies and the establishment of spaces of agreement and decision both at the local and national levels are taken into account.
- The financing, monitoring and assessment mechanisms are accessible at a local level and proactively target women in order to reduce inequalities.
- The technologies for climate transition take into account the needs of women who must be able to access the jobs created.
- The participatory approach must be the basis of the adaptation programmes in order to ensure a sustainable and inclusive development. Moreover, the actions on climate must further articulate attenuation and adaptation because the social issue is inseparable from the technical issues.
