The program developed specific education program for urban working boys and girls in the Colombian department of Valle del Cauca.
The education program was articulated in 2 years of pre-school education to strengthen children’s capacities to take advantage of the elementary education. After that period, children could decide between going to high school and attending a programme for vocational training in the “Asociacion Cristiana Jóvenes de Cali” (capital town of Valle del Cauca). In this program they could learn about different options available in the professional markets in order to identify the best option for them, and once identified, the children received support for labour insertion in the area they have chosen.
The pilot program was carried out during a 5 years period for a group of 558 children; most of them came from low-income families and were of afro or indigenous background.
Ideaborn was in charge of elaborating the conceptual framework of the project and of incorporating a gender component.
